I was recently listening to the latest hit by Badshah "Genda Phool" and I must say, ''I'm disappointed'' will be an understatement. I don't think there's a problem with the song (it's not trending for no reason). I think it's the name of the song that struck me. I was the least impressed because of my impromptu comparison of the song with the iconic hit I grew up listening to, Genda Phool from Delhi 6.
There are these songs that one can never forget. We've grown up listening to these melodies and connecting to them, so much so, that even the starting note of the song is enough to take us back. There are so many of them that we've forgotten long ago but no worries because we have a little something for you.
Here's a list of some iconic bops that every millennial desi girl has loved and haven't heard in a long time.
Genda Phool (Delhi 6)
Since we were earlier talking about this song, it was imperative to add it to the list.
If you are a true Bebo fan, you have danced to this song innumerable times.
Maine Payal Hai Chhankayi (Falguni Pathak)
If you know all the lyrics to this song, you have passed the veteran's test.
Yaad Piya Ki (Pyaar Koi Khel Nahi)
Falguni Pathak songs are and will always be every brown girl's favourite. We are not talking about the recent remake :( please no. This is from the 1999 movie Pyaar Koi Khel Nahi. This song joins the list for its catchy tune and catchier lyrics.
Original Track by Falguni Pathak (Chudi)
Sajna Ji Vaari Vaari ( Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.)
You shouldn't be here if this song doesn't remind you of a Baraat scene back in the days. It's quirky, fun, and forever my go-to dance music.
Move Your Body (Johnny Gaddaar)
Back when Hard Kaur was our desi Nicki Minaj, and Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy at the top of their games, this song was everyone's favourite party track. Thankfully it doesn't have a remake as of yet.
Piya Piya O Piya (Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega...)
The iconic Rani Mukherjee-Preity Zinta duo set fire to this song and made it every brown girl's dearest.
It's Rocking (Kya Love Story Hai)
This iconic Bebo track was all I needed! The vibe is desi and super fun and I'm sure it'll always be a special song for all of us.
Bhaage Re Mann (Chameli)
This soulful melody successfully made it to my list because of the beauty of the song and the fact that not a lot of y'all remember it :(
Right Here Right Now (Bluffmaster)
Iconic in every sense. Right Here Right Now was such a vibe! They've taken Das Bahane from us in the remake market but please for god sake do not take this gem away.
Woh Ladki Hai Kahan (Dil Chahta Hai)
This song was like a breath of fresh air. The tune and melody of this track is and will always be unforgettable.
Chale Jaise Hawaien (Main Hoon Na)
Sanjana (Amrita Rao) was my only icon back in the day and I always wanted to have a college life like hers.. dancing to Chale Jaise Hawaien.. but look at me now.
Bure Bure (Bluffmaster)
Another Bluffmaster hit and truly a jewel in early 2000s Bollywood music's crown.
Le Gayi (Dil Toh Pagal Hai)
Long before Bebo ruled bolly, elder sister Lolo had already set her foot and made an imprint on the box office with numbers like this one.
Aye Meri Zohrajabeen (Hera Pheri)
Closing the list with this catchy song from this memorable blockbuster movie. I hope you haven't forgotten this and even if you have, you can thank me later for reminding you.
Although the list would go on and on and on... but there's only so much that I can remember lol. Let me know other iconic Bollywood that might be forgotten by this time and make sure you blast these songs on your speakers today.
