Ever thought about putting food on your face? No?
At first, the idea seemed ridiculous to me too but now I love making my own makeup and beauty products using DIY recipes.
Cosmetic products are not only expensive but are loaded with lots of chemicals that can harm your skin in the long run.
Read on to know how to make your own DIY foundation using a few simple ingredients from your pantry. The best part about making your own foundation is that you can customize it exactly as you want!
Don't expect great results at your first trial though (It took me about 3 experiments to get the perfect tone/colour for my skin.) Have patience and more importantly have fun!
It is always a good thing to try something new, especially if it will benefit your skin, your wallet and this planet in the long run.

Additional Tips:
- You can add a liquid base for making the normal and oily skin foundations too. Use any baby lotion for normal skin. Use Lacto Calamine oil-free lotion for oily skin. Use any white moisturizer for nourishing dry skin.
- Note that these are standard sample recipes. You can mix and match the ingredients to make a recipe that suits your skin type. You can also add some other ingredients to your recipe.
- If you'd like to add minerals to your homemade foundation then you can consider adding non-nano Zinc oxide, Mica powder, Bentonite clay, Fuller's earth etc. Remember to use a non-metallic bowl for mixing if you use any of these ingredients.
- You can add skin-friendly essential oils like lavender, frankincense, rose etc or vegetable glycerin and vegetable-based emulsifying wax. I personally like to add a few drops of lemongrass essential oil to my liquid foundation.
- Make sure to first test the colour by applying the foundation to your or your arm. This will also help you to check for any allergic reactions.
- Apply your foundation with clean fingers or a clean brush/sponge. Homemade foundations have medium to light coverage. Store your homemade foundation in a cool, dark and dry place.
